Jakob Stepp is considered one of the outstanding chamber musicians of his generation. He collaborates with renowned instrumentalists such as Tobias Feldmann, Noa Wildschut, Boris Kusnezow, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, or Veriko Tchumburidze, and is a sought-after guest at prestigious festivals such as the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Yeosu International Music Festival, and the Rheingau Music Festival. His talent and musical interpretations have earned him several prestigious awards, including prizes at the German Music Competition (Deutscher Musikwettbewerb), the Czech Radio Competition (Concertino Praga), and the International Dotzauer Competition. Additionally, he was a scholarship recipient of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and the Jürgen Ponto Foundation.
At the age of ten, Jakob Stepp began studying as a junior student under Prof. Martin Ostertag and later Prof. Peter Bruns. He completed his formal studies with the distinguished cellists Prof. Heinrich Schiff and Prof. Julian Steckel. Since his youth, Jakob Stepp has been active in various orchestras, gaining invaluable experience. His development as a musician was significantly influenced while his time as an academist of the Berliner Philharmoniker, where he worked with Ludwig Quandt.
Today Jakob Stepp is a regular guest with leading orchestras and a member of the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie. In the 2022/2023 season, Jakob Stepp was the principal cellist of the Bielefeld Philharmonic. Starting in August 2024, he will hold the same position with the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn.
Jakob Stepp also directs the Montecastelli Chamber Music Festival in Italy, which he co-founded with Heinrich Schiff in 2015 and has organized annually since. Additionally Jakob Stepp has been the artistic coordinator of the Euroclassic Festival Orchestra in Pirmasens since 2022.
Since 2023 Jakob Stepp has been teaching solo cello and orchestral studies at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media.
